蝙蝠故事由一个神秘的作家Cornelia Van Gorder住进了一间发生过多起离奇谋杀案件的近郊出租屋‘The Oaks’开始。该屋子的主人正是当地银行家John Fleming。 John Fleming并不是什么好人，他挪用了一百万美元的有价证券并藏于屋中，但是，就在这笔巨款失踪没多久后，John Fleming就离奇死亡了，之后，一连串的奇异事件就陆陆续续地发生在这所受诅咒的小屋中…… 影片评价本片的女主角艾格尼丝.穆尔黑德（Agnes Moorehead）曾经饰演《公民凯恩》而被受注目。男主角是四五十年代饰演过多部经典恐怖片的Vincent Price。导演克兰·威尔伯（Crane Wilbur）生于纽约州阿森斯。1904年开始登台表演，1910年进入电影界，后和著名女星珀尔．怀特（白珍珠》合演过连集片《宝莲历险记》等，被称为银幕美男子。同时开始创作舞台剧和电影剧本，也导演过几部影片。至30年代中后期更导演兼编剧了诸多影片，以动作片为主，可说是他电影事业的黄金时期。其它主要电影剧本有《歌王艳史》、《枪林亡命》、《疯狂魔术师》、《神秘岛》等；兼导演有《明天的孩子们》、《海军间谍》、《牢墙之外》、《蝙蝠》、《妇女之家》等。1973年10月去世
