좀비 2표류되어 뉴욕 앞 바다까지 들어온 보트에서 좀비가 발견되자 이를 조사하러 행방된 아버지를 찾는 딸과 신문 기자가 함께 섬으로 떠난다. 그곳에는 섬 사람들이 전염병으로 죽어 좀비가 된다. 그리고 살아있는 사람을 먹으려 달려들고, 먹힌 사람들은 곧 좀비가 되어버린다. 이 기이한 일들은 과학적으로는 증명이 되지 않는 그저 부두교와 관련된 것으로 짐작하는데, 이미 온 세상은 좀비로 가득차게 된다.
