오퍼나지: 비밀의계단 (2007)로라, 카를로스 부부와 아들 시몬은 과거 고아원이었던 대저택으로 이사를 온다. 이 고아원에서 어린시절을 보낸 로라는 병에 걸린 시몬의 건강을 돌보기 위해 외딴 바닷가에 위치한 이곳을 고집했다. 하지만 이사온지 얼마 안돼서 시몬은 이 집에 친구들이 있다며 놀러 다닌다. 더구나 친구들로부터 자신은 입양된 아이고, 곧 죽을 것이라고 들었다며 괴로워한다. 로라는 출생의 비밀을 알아버린 시몬에게 놀라워하지만, 친구들이 있다는 소리는 말도 안 되는 아이의 장난으로 여긴다. 그러던 어느 날, 시몬의 기분 전환을 위해 동네 사람들과 파티를 열게 되는데 그 파티에서 시몬은 사라지고 만다. 시간은 점점 흐르고, 모두가 시몬이 죽었다고 생각하는 가운데 로라는 시몬이 말했던 보이지 않는 친구들의 존재가 자신의 과거와 모종의 관계가 있음을 깨닫게 되는데…
