나이트 플라이어사람 아니면 악마(?), 이 의문의 인물은 자신을 1931년 드라큐라 영화에서 벌레를 먹는 싸이코를 연기한 드와이어트 렌필드(Dwight Renfield: 마이클 H. 모스 분)라고 부른다. 선정적이고 자극적인 타블로이드 신문인 인사이드 뷰 편집장 모리슨(Merton Morrison: 댄 모나핸 분)은 이 사건 취재 기사를 피의 대부라 불리는 최고 고참 기자인 리차드(Richard Dees: 미구엘 페러 분)에게 맡긴다. 차갑고 냉소적인 인물, 리차드는 모리슨으로부터 이 기괴한 이야기를 듣고 시큰둥한 반응만을 보인다. 전혀 현실적인 기사가 되지 못할 거라는 판단에서다. 모리슨은 이 기사를 신참 기자인 캐서린(Katherine Blair: 줄리 엔트위슬 분)에게 넘긴다. 하지만 연이어 비행장에서 목에 커다란 상처를 남기고 죽은 시체들이 발견되면서 리차드는 마음을 바꾼다. 처음으로 맡은 사건 취재에 들떠 있던 캐서린은 이 일을 알고 몹시 흥분한다. 하지만 외골수인 리차드가 함께 일할 리 만무다. 리차드는 캐서린을 따돌리고 자신의 비행기를 몰고 살인마 추적에 나서지만...
