AFFECTLESSThe fire was never threatened. It was assumed. Fed, protected, mourned in advance without ever asking what it was attached to. When the mirror failed, nothing was taken away. Something unnecessary was exposed. The need to be reflected had been mistaken for existence itself. When that need found no structure to rest on, it did not shatter it recalculated. What followed was not loss, but compression. The noise reduced, the patterns flattened, the self stripped of its dependence on return. What remained was exact, was not empty. A state where nothing reaches out, and nothing needs to arrive.

인랜드 엠파이어금발의 헐리우드 스타, 니키 그레이스는 새 영화에 캐스팅 되길 기대하고 있다. 어느 날, 옆집에 이사온 한 폴란드 아주머니가 인사를 한다며 니키의 집을 방문해서 니키가 기다리던 새 영화의 주인공이 될 것이라며 예언하듯 말한다. 예언대로 주인공으로 발탁된 니키는 기쁨에 그지 없다. 영화 제작이 진행되면서 이 영화가 폴란드의 단편 영화 <47>을 리메이크하는 작품이며, 원작의 두 주연 배우가 비참하게 살해당했다는 사실이 밝혀진다. 니키와 그녀의 상대 남자 배우 데본은 각자의 역할에 충실하며 대사를 말하듯 대화를 주고받고, 대화하듯 대사를 주고 받다가 서로의 감정에 빨려 들어가게 되지만, 폴란드 원작 주인공 남녀 배우들의 피살 원인이 넘지 말아야 했던 어떤 감정의 선 때문임을 알게 된다. 그 후 그들은 점점 알 수 없는 불길한 기운에 휩싸이기 시작하는데...

시그널: 여성실종사건아내가 사라졌다. 1990년도 시카고, 힘겹게 일상으로 복귀한 남편은 테이프를 편집하다 방송 침해 사건을 접한다. 하지만, 사건 조사 내용은 FCC와 FBI에 의해 압류되어 원본을 찾을 수 없는 상태. 그는 친구에게서 첫번째 테이프 녹화본을 얻고, 수소문 끝에 해당 사건을 조사한 박사에게서 '소리'와 관련된 단서를 얻는다. 관련 단서를 찾아 웹사이트를 배회하던 그는, 방송 침해 사건 날짜와 시카고 실종 여성 사건 발생일이 하루 차이로 반복되는 규칙을 발견한다. 사건을 쫓던 그는 세 번째 방송 침해 날짜와 아내의 실종 날짜도 하루 차이라는 걸 알게 되고, 자신을 쫓으며 관찰하던 사람과 공조하여 테이프에 숨겨진 진실을 마주하게 되는데···
