환상특급 (1983)첫번째 이야기, '빌에게 생긴 일'(존 랜디스 감독) 중년의 세일즈맨, 빌은 승진에 누락되어 심한 좌절감을 느끼고, 친구들에게 그동안 쌓인 불만을 늘어놓는다. 유태인인 골드만 때문에 승진에서 밀려났다고 생각하고 있는 빌. 그는 유태인 뿐만 아니라 유색 인종들에 대한 심한 반감을 큰소리로 떠들어 댄다. 혼자 술집을 나선 빌은 갑자기 자신이 낯선 곳에 와 있음을 깨닫게 되는데... 두번째 이야기, '꿈을 심어주는 노인'(스티븐 스필버그 감독) 퇴직한 늙은이들이 모여 사는 서니베일 양로원에는 각각 다른 성격의 노인들이 TV앞에 모여 앉아, 의미 없는 수다를 떨고, 지난날을 그리워하며 단조로운 일상을 보내고 있다. 어느날, 새로 들어온 볼룸씨는 어릴때 그들이 하던 깡통차기 놀이를 해 보자고 제안한다. 놀이를 시작하자마자 노인들은 다시 어린 시절의 모습으로 돌아가게 되지만... 세 번째 이야기, '이상한 소년'(죠 단테 감독) 일상적인 생활에 염증을 느끼던 헬렌은 허무하고 공허한 자신의 생활을 새롭게 해 줄 그 무언가를 찾아 여행을 떠난다. 여행 도중에 헬렌은 어느 조그만 간이 식당에서 안소니라는 소년을 만나게 된다. 그녀의 차에 부딪혀 넘어진 안소니를 집까지 데려다 주게 된다. 헬렌은 안소니 가족의 어색하리만큼 과장된 친절에 다소 당혹감을 느끼고... 네 번째 이야기, '발렌타인의 악몽'(죠지 밀러 감독) 심한 폭우와 짙은 구름을 뚫고, 요란한 소리를 내며, 비행기 한 대가 그 거대한 몸체를 움직이고 있다. 비행 공포증이 있는 발렌타인은 겁에 질려 화장실에 웅크리고 앉아 있다. 승무원의 도움으로 자리에 앉아 잠을 청해보지만, 심하게 흔들리는 기체의 진동과 요란한 번개 소리로 공포감에 사로잡힌다. 무심히 창 밖을 내다 본 그는 비행기 날개 끝에 매달려 있는 소름 끼치는 뭔가를 보고, 그 괴물이 엔진을 부수고 있다며 흥분하는데...
