줄거리

Caitlin R. Kiernan, the author of Silk, returns with a powerful novel of new discoveries and ancient terrors. Chance Matthews has suffered enough tragedies. The latest - her grandfather's death - has left her shaken, convinced that she will always be alone. What she needs now is time - time to recover, time to determine what her future will be. What she doesn't need is a strange girl with alabaster skin who knows things about Chance she can't possible known. This girl speaks of being charged by an angel to battle monsters and claims she cannot do it alone. She says she needs Chance's help. Chance doesn't believe in angels. Or monsters. But among the artifacts left by her geologist grandparents, there lies a fossil of a creature that couldn't possibly have ever existed. But it did. And still does...

In the Garden of Poisonous Flowers
In the Garden of Poisonous FlowersLate one night, on a lonely south Georgia highway, a very strange car picks up an even stranger hitchhiker and the fates of all concerned become inextricably intertwined. Meet Dancy Flammarion, an orphaned albino girl who talks to angels and is intent on ridding the world of monsters. But what happens when one of the monsters decides to use her for his own dark ends? Caitlín R. Kiernan's In the Garden of Poisonous Flowers is a wickedly delicious novella that tells us a bit more about Dancy Flammarion. Dancy, an albino orphan whose angels tell her what monsters to kill, was a pivotal character in the author's second novel Threshold (2001). In Garden's 85 pages you'll also meet The Bailiff - a mysterious gentleman who travels with two vampires - and Miss Aramat Drawdes, the unspoken matriarch of the Stephens Ward Tea League and Society of Resurrectionists. Miss Aramat and her ladies are an elegant and decadent sisterhood of ghouls who live in a grand mansion in Savannah, Georgia to whom The Bailiff delivers Dancy for his own arcane reasons. In the Garden of Poisonous Flowers is award-winning fantasist Caitlin R. Kiernan's first-ever novella, giving us a glimpse into the life of Dancy Flammarion shortly before her appearance in Kiernan's critically-acclaimed second novel, Threshold. This gritty yet decadent story of ghouls, corruption, and talking bears, draws us deeply into a world of madness and betrayal, forbidden appetites and deadly intrigue, and the light that shines from the most unlikely of heroes.
