マウス・オブ・マッドネス (1995)失踪したベストセラー・ホラー作家サター・ケイン。彼の行方を追う保険調査員のトレントは、アシスタントを伴い、地図に出ていない田舎町を目指して車を走らせる。町に近づくと、子供がだれ一人いない深夜に少年が自転車に乗って走るのとすれ違ったり、後に老人が同じ自転車に乗って走っていたり、夜だったのがトンネルを抜けると朝になっていたりと不思議な体験をする。絵の中の枯れ木が違うものに変容したり、愛想のいいお婆さんが悪鬼だったりと、小説が現実を浸蝕する悪夢の世界に巻き込まれていく。
