ザ・フライＧ・ランジュランの古典小説「蠅」を、やはりSFホラー映画の名作である1958年作「蝿男の恐怖」に続いて２度目の映画化。誤った科学技術の進歩が1組の男女にもたらす悲劇を、優れた特殊メイク（第59回アカデミー賞メイクアップ賞受賞）を駆使してリアルに描いた。 物質移動と遺伝子組み換えについて研究している科学者セスは、物質を別の空間に転移する新装置“テレポッド”を発明する。セスと出会った雑誌記者のベロニカは装置のことを特ダネにしようと彼に提案し、やがて2人は愛し合う仲になる。やがてセスは自ら“テレポッド”の実験台になるが、装置の中に1匹のハエがまぎれ込んでいたせいで、彼の肉体に異常な変化が。なんとセスの肉体に、少しずつハエのような特徴が現われてくる。

CASSHERN50年続いた大戦に勝利した大亜細亜聯邦共和國。ところが、その繁栄の裏側では様々な病気が人類を脅かしていた。そんな中、重い病に苦しむ妻・ミドリの為に、人間のあらゆる部位を自在に造り出す“新造細胞”理論を提唱していた東博士は、軍部の援助により本格的に研究を開始するが、実験場から新生命体“新造人間”が誕生。大多数は軍によって始末されるも、生き延びたブライキング・ボスら数名の新造人間たちは、生きる為に容易に戦いの道を選んでしまう人類の世界を破壊しようと、攻撃を仕掛けて来た。再びの戦火。それを収めるべく立ち上がったのは、先の大戦で戦死し、新造細胞によって蘇生した東博士の息子・鉄也だった。
