アポカリプスZ ～終末の始まり～狂犬病のような感染症が地球上に蔓延し、人々は次々と攻撃的な生き物に変わっていく。そんな中、マネルは愛猫とともに自宅に身を隠し、知恵を絞って生き延びる。だがまもなく食料が底を突き、安全な場所を探すために陸や海へ旅立つことになる。

フェーズ6A deadly virus has spread across the globe. Contagion is everywhere, no one is safe, and no one can be trusted. Four friends race through the back roads of the American West on their way to a secluded utopian beach in the Gulf of Mexico where they could peacefully wait out the pandemic. Their plans take a grim turn when their car breaks down on an isolated road starting a chain of events that will seal their fates.

寄生獣海辺に漂着した小さな寄生生物、パラサイト。彼らは人間に寄生しては宿主に擬態し、ほかの人間を食料としてむさぼっていく。そのうちの１匹が至って普通の高校生・泉新一に寄生するが、脳を乗っ取ることができずに右手に宿る。自身の肉体にパラサイトが寄生して驚がくする新一だったが、彼をミギーと呼んで共生するうちに奇妙な絆を育むように。やがて、彼の通う高校に教師・田宮良子に寄生したパラサイトやって来る。それを発端にほかのパラサイトが次々と出現し、新一とミギーに襲い掛かる。

寄生獣完結編新一の暮らす東福山市で、市長・広川が率いるパラサイトたちの強大なネットワークが形成されていく。彼らの動向を注視していた人類側は、パラサイトの全滅を図るべく特殊部隊を編成して広川と配下たちの根城となっている東福山市庁舎の急襲を画策していた。静かに対決の時が迫る中、パラサイトの田宮良子は人間の子供を生んだのを機に人類と共存する道を探る。新一とミギーがその鍵になると考えるが、彼は母親を殺したパラサイトへの憎しみと怒りに支配されていた。
