Sinopsis

A distressed young woman, possibly on the run is surrounded by nothing but barren landscapes of forests and fields. As she progresses to an indiscernible denouement, the film contorts shape into a circular series of pulsating images that touches on the horror and the metaphysical.

Isabelle aux Dombes (1951)Pialat's first film was the 8-minute short Isabelle aux Dombes, shot in 1951 when the director was 26 years old. The film is an entirely silent montage of documentary footage, ragged experimental techniques — mainly some negative-image inserts — and symbolic psychodrama that's surprisingly not too different from the work that Stan Brakhage would begin making just a year or two later. Corazones del tiempo (1934)“The Hearts of Age” es la primera experiencia tras la cámara de Orson Welles, un cortometraje rodado con la complicidad de su compañero de instituto William Vance y realizado con una cámara de 16 mm cuando contaba tan sólo 19 años durante una tarde en la que se reúnen los dos amigos. El film ha sido rescatado para la posteridad tras la fama cinematográfica de Welles, y en él, además de codirigirlo, aparece bajo la apariencia de “muerte” junto a Vance, Paul Edgerton y la actriz Virginia Nicholson, su primera esposa, envejecida por el maquillaje exagerado como una mujer anciana que se balancea sentada sobre una campana. Es una película experimental, de lenguaje claramente surrealista, que para algunos intenta parodiar el expresionismo de Murnau, Lang o Wiene y para otros es un claro homenaje al movimiento alemán que recuerda en su estructura de acciones repetitivas y movimientos fracturados a “El acorazado Potemkin” de Einsestein.
