사형참극 (1978)의사인 프란시스 그로스가 삶과 죽음에 대한 연구를 위해 촬영한 장면들을 다큐멘타리 형식으로 편집하여 보여주는 일종의 페이크 다큐멘타리영화. 뭐 실제인지 아닌지는 모르겠지만 삶과 죽음에 대한 그럴듯한 설명을 통해 보여주는 장면들은 확실히 높은 강도를 보여줍니다. 특히 오프닝의 수술 잡도과정과 동물을 잡는 장면 등은 실제 촬영분이라고 하더라구요..?? 인간이 살겠다고 또는 즐기겠다고 동물을 죽이는 장면 등은 나름대로 느끼는바가 확실한데 나머지 부분에서는 삶과 죽음을 고찰하기엔 표현강도가 높아 뇌가 잠시 집나간 듯한 느낌이 듭니다. 이제는 고어에 익숙해진 저지만 왠만한 사람들에겐 불쾌한 영화임에는 틀림없습니다. PS. 카니발리즘을 표현한 카니발 홀로코스트 시리즈의 상업적 성공이 이런 영화를 만들게 한 원인이라면 원인이지만 이 영화 역시 시리즈로 제작될 정도의 인기를 얻은건 사실입니다.
