Sydney Sweeney est une actrice et productrice américaine née le 12 septembre 1997 à Spokane, dans l'État de Washington. Issue d'une famille où sa mère exerçait comme avocate pénaliste et son père travaillait dans l'hôtellerie, elle grandit dans une zone rurale près de la frontière avec l'Idaho, pratiquant de nombreux sports dont le wakeboard, le football et le baseball. À 14 ans, elle convainc ses parents de déménager à Los Angeles pour poursuivre une carrière d'actrice, après avoir présenté un plan professionnel détaillé. Elle débute par des apparitions dans des séries comme Esprits criminels (2009), Grey’s Anatomy (2014) et Pretty Little Liars (2017). En 2018, elle obtient des rôles plus notables dans la série Everything Sucks ! (Emaline Addario), la mini-série Sharp Objects aux côtés d'Amy Adams, et The Handmaid's Tale : La Servante écarlate. Sa carrière décolle en 2019 avec le rôle de Cassie Howard dans la série HBO Euphoria (2019–présent), aux côtés de Zendaya, qui lui vaut une reconnaissance internationale. En 2021, elle brille dans la première saison de The White Lotus, série anthologique acclamée.
