Biography
D'origines philippine et grecque, Dave Bautista devient célèbre dans les années 2000 en pratiquant le catch et le combat libre de manière professionnelle. Il participe notamment à la fameuse "World Wrestling Entertainment" où il remporte plusieurs titres de champion du Monde. Après quelques rôles minimes dans un épisode des séries Smallville en 2006, Head Case en 2009 et Chuck en 2010, il est la tête d'affiche de Banlieue interdite (2010), long-métrage directement sorti en vidéo mettant en scène une autre star du catch, Rob Van Dam. En 2011, il joue encore le personnage principal d'un Direct-to-vidéo, The Redemption, avant de participer à L'Homme aux poings de fer (2012) pour sa première apparition au cinéma. Après cela, il enchaîne les rôles dans les sagas musclées comme Le Roi Scorpion 3 - L'oeil des Dieux (2012) et Riddick (2013) aux côtés de Vin Diesel, qui incarne Richard B. Riddick pour la troisième fois après Pitch Black (2000) et Les Chroniques de Riddick (2004). Il décroche ensuite le rôle de Drax le Destructeur dans Les Gardiens de la Galaxie (2014), long-métrage de la phase 2 de l'Univers cinématographique de Marvel Studios. Le succès du blockbuster (plus de 770 millions de dollars de recettes dans le monde) donne lieu à une suite dans laquelle l'acteur est à nouveau de la partie. De plus en plus sollicité, Dave Bautista ne prend pas uniquement part à des direct-to-dvd mettant en valeur sa carrure menaçante comme Marauders ou Bus 657, mais est également choisi par de prestigieux metteurs en scène pour jouer dans des films très attendus à l'instar de 007 Spectre ou Blade Runner 2049. Dans ces derniers, il se bat respectivement contre Daniel Craig et Ryan Gosling le temps d'une scène bien brutale. Parallèlement à ses obligations envers Marvel (il rempile pour Les Gardiens de la Galaxie 2, Avengers 3 et 4, Thor 4 et Les Gardiens de la Galaxie 3), Dave joue dans la franchise carcérale Evasion 2 et 3, donne la réplique à Pierce Brosnan dans Final Score, retrouve Denis Villeneuve pour Dune (et sa suite) et se frotte à des zombies dans Army of the Dead. Ses prestations gagnant en importance, l'acteur n'est plus uniquement choisi pour prendre part à des films bourrins.
