Just when jumpscares seemed to be running out of steam, Insidious makes an interesting move by recycling demons from past installments to scare us out of our wits; yet, it is not raw fear that keeps us on edge, but how it utilizes them. Despite relying on a few sentimental tropes, the cliché of the unhinged mother, and a renewed fear of dentists, the film packs familiar elements that ultimately feel quite acceptable. I suppose seeing Elise and the "Smiling Girl" again put me in a great mood. I definitely need a sequel for that demon girl.
